Varyag & Irkut – Russian Military

An imposing display of Russian military was anchored at Canada Place this past week. The Russian missile cruiser Varyag and tanker Irkut

The Varyag is 187 metres long, weighs in at 11,370 tonnes and carries a crew of 515.

The Irkut is slightly smaller at 130 metres and 11,140 tonnes with a crew of 62.

Russian sailors participated in Remembrance Day events at the Pioneer Square Cenotaph and spent time socializing with members of the Canadian navy.

With over a 2 hour wait to get into the ships, I just stayed on the outside. These are all ‘rough cuts” (iPhone Reproductions)

and are a nice addition to my other Russian series The Kruzenshtern, (calendar version) you may or may have not seen.
